The Birchmoor Stud originally started in 1964 as a pony stud and not until the early part of the 1970’s did Shetlands make an appearance. The herd now stands around 50 head, height 36″ to 42″ inches. A large selective stud of quality standard section “A” ponies bred with the emphasis on good bone, correct conformation, movement and true breed characteristics. Founded from top bloodlines and are regular winners at major shows. We have many breeding lines in the stud, the major influence has been our Eastland’s Ponies, they have height, bone, masses of hair and big flowing action, but most of all superb temperaments. The dark bay stallion Eastlands Midnight Again, arrived in spring 1987 to replace our Harviestoun bred stallion Solomon of Battenburg (grand sire of Birchmoor Amadeus) whom we had lost in the previous winter, we have carried on line breeding these.
We specialise Black and Red Bay mostly, but breed some other colours also.
